Sponsor | Xtine66 | Jul 13, 2006 11:59pm | | I often highlight bits of a site before hittin' the thumbs up button. Much too often I am told by the new site review pop-up - inaccurately - that I'm trying to generate a review that is too long. |

Sometimes, what seems to be a simple paragraph break on the page, can actually be hiding all sorts of table structure, for example.
If you haven't already checked this, and wish to do so, try pasting one of those "too big" chunks into notepad (or similar) and see what the plain text actually looks like.
If you *have* done this, you should be able to report the character count of the "too big" copy, and thus aid with the problem analysis. |

| Sponsor | Xtine66 | Jul 14, 2006 8:26am | #2: I've got the latest versions of both.
#3: I always put those "too long" highlighted bits into notepad for safe keeping while I go back to the page, un-rate it, highlight only one word, rate the page again; and then I can C & P the block of text into the window.
I have never seen any weird code in what I've pasted into notepad.
I think the limit is around 1200 words per post. I highlight nowhere near that much and still have to go thru all those extra steps anyway. |

| Sponsor | drinkfinebeer | Jul 14, 2006 8:30am | Last time I saw the post limit quoted it was 2000 charas (spaces are chars, too ;o) - but I seem to recall it was upped from that.
If this is only occurring with the new site pop-up, then it would seem to be a bug.
On Mac OSX & FF, my new site pop-up launches (always) into the background, does not clear when I submit, and crashes FF about one time in four. No weird urls that I have spotted thus far, so I'd hazard that this thing is a little buggy. |

My workaround is to highlight the desired text and at that point rightclick "copy", then if you get the "too long" message, unhighlight the text (you may wish to "copy" again for safekeeping, but its usually still in the clipboard), un-thumb the site and then re-thumbup the site to get the dialog box. You can then paste your text into the comment box.
No real need to paste into Notepad/Word/Excel, since as you state: "I have never seen any weird code in what I've pasted into notepad". That wierd code only seems to happen by using the 'View Selection Source' feature of Firefox. |

|
| Sponsor | usmjam | Jul 14, 2006 10:37am | ahhh, no, its 2.78. Says its latest, so I didn't consider the beta version. Sorry, I stand corrected.
(That teaches me to not make more blond jokes, eh Vontwiss?) |
